Inbetween before & after

It took me quite a while to write another blog-post. I'm still staying on the island Rhodes, and we're fooling around about permanently renting a small flat in the village. As you can see on the photo, it is always nice to have a walk up the hill to see the lights of the village in the evening. Quite inspiring view!

As for the music, I had ordered a budget guitar in Germany, just days before we travelled to Greece. It has finally been delivered last week and to my surprise it is absolutely flawless and very nice to play. My fingers need practice and I'm trying to figure out if my songs work as a repertoire for a one-man-band. It looks like so do and some don't. 

I have also finished the basic recording for a new song with the title "In-between before and after". I'll give you more details about it in a separate post later on. There are three more songs, I'm working on bit by bit. One of it is based on a new idea, that I developed just recently. The other two are radically new approaches on songs, that didn't make it on earlier releases. It feels like both songs have a very special quality. Unfortunately the versions we were working on in the past as a band, didn't really take off for various reasons. So I decided to give it another try from a complete different perspective and leave everything behind, apart from the basic chord-structure and lyrics. As I don't have all my equipment available here, some ideas cannot be realised properly, but it feels like there's a fresh vibe to the songs, that helps me forget about the parts, that didn't work with those earlier versions. 

By now, I don't have an idea, where the whole thing goes. Hopefully it will develop into a conception for a new album. I'm curious and it feels like the right thing to do.

A new beginning

Dear folks, 

welcome to the brand new headquarter and also a new beginning for starfish64. It's been a while and quite some things have changed in the meantime. As mentioned earlier starfish64 as a band is no more. From now on it will be only me (more or less). 

 A blog (really not the latest hot shit) seems to be nice way keep my listeners up to date with developements, ideas and also the stories and thoughts behind my music both old and new. But most of all it is kind of a therapy for myself, i suppose. After 2024, i call it my hospital year, it feels like a big relief having gained back my creative spirit and my music. So i kind of want to reach out with it. 

Earlier this year, i started to think about how proceed with my music. I went through a lot of unfinished songs and sketches and tried to sort out where to go with it. One important decision for me personally is to handle as much as possible by myself in the future. No compromise, no decision to please somebody else, no awkward discussion whether a guitar part here or there helps a song forward or having an instrument more upfront or not. I have had this approach for at least thirty years and it squeezed out some great songs this way, but maybe just as many bummers. 

I am well aware that getting away from it brings up other limitations, most of all my own limitations as a musician. A helping hand here or there will still be necessary, no question. But i will not have to convince myself, to try something else to make a song work, if it doesn't. 

So this is where i started from a couple of weeks ago with few ideas in mind to open another page.  As of now there are at least three tracks at early stages that seem to go well. I will tell you more about it as it developes.
